Hometown Invasion Tour

  • From September 2006 to September 2007 I traveled to all 50 states in exactly one year, where I stayed in over 100 households of people I had never met, snapped over 20,000 photos, wrote over 400 blog entries, and experience more than I could ever imagine. I dubbed it The Hometown Invasion Tour.

  • I wrote a sponsorship proposal that resulted in asponsorship deal with Jeep®. They lent me a 2007 Jeep Compass® for the duration of the trip.

  • My first ever press release only received a 3.0 in my journalism class, but it made the AP wire and helped launch my trip.

  • Through several press releases I was able to receive a few dozen newspaper features, a dozen radio broadcasts, a dozen local television spots, two magazine feature articles, and one national television talkshow.

  • I managed to stay in over 130 beds in 365 days. That's a new bed every 2.8 days.

  • I also photographed Rice the Squirrel in all 50 states, the first squirrel to go to all 50 states.

  • I have since given speaking engagements to over a dozen elementary classes, a handfull of high school classes, over a dozen college classes, and several special groups. A highlight includes a lecture series at Michigan State and being honored as a John Aldinger Honorary Professor of Promotions in the Department of Advertising, Public Relations, and Retailing.

  • Following my trip I also wrote a column for AdWeek magazine. Sponsorship Drive.

  • The amount of planning and commitment that went into the trip gave me an incredible amount of experience with project management, as well as marketing, advertising, sweet projects, and public speaking. So if any of those make a light bulb turn on above your head let me know.

Web Development

  • It all started in 1997 with my first website on geocities:
    www.geocities.com/pipeline/4178/

  • That was a long time ago and year by year my skills increased. I bought my first domain name in 2002, that domain name would be BugsyRocker.com and it has changed nearly every year I've owned it. Bugsy Rocker is where my online playgrounds all began.

  • Since those early days I have expanded my skill set to include various acronyms and some other things: HTML, CSS, MySQL, PHP, RSS, SEO, SEM, .htaccess, Wordpress themes, Adobe Creative Suite, and analytics.

  • Daily Fruit is a project I have done since 2001, a silly project at best. However it is my #1 portfoliio piece in terms of web development. It features user registrations, advanced SQL queries, AJAX capabilities and the back end tracks nearly every single action a user takes.

  • Yooper Steez is my first official business. In the first year the site has attracted nearly 600 blog subscribers, 5,500 fans on the Facebook page, shipped t-shirts to over 40 states, and the shirts have been photographed in five of the seven continents. Search engine traffic has increased nearly every month since launch. This site features a custom Wordpress blog, ecommerce, and is growing to become the most popular blog in the Upper Peninsula.

  • Looking for a web developer? I feel that one of my greatest strengths is my concern for results. To put it lightly, I am mildly obsessed with statistics. I long to develop a site that increases conversion reates, lengths of visits, total visitors, and other metrics.

Photography

  • Though my passion for photography didn't start until I was a junior in high school, I strongly feel that it's been in my blood my entire life. My grandfather developed and printed all of the family photos as my mom grew up. My mom would also find a love for photography, and my passion for it was passed on from her when I borrowed her camera for the first time in high school.

  • My freshman year at MSU I decided on two things. 1) That I wanted to have a winning photo in the Global Focus photography contest in the International Center and 2) that I was going to go on the Photo Communications study abroad program.

  • Though I didn't win, I did get an honorable mention in the 2004 MSU Global Focus contest.

  • During the summer of 2004 I spent six weeks abroad on the Photo Communications program with 21 amazing people. It would change my life.

  • During my 4th year at Michigan State I was the photography editor for the Red Cedar Log yearbook (the largest yearbook in the nation) after being a photography for them for two years. I helped produce the sesquicentennial edition. There were 21,000 copies printed. I magned a team of 12 photographers as well as selected the photos to be printed.

  • My work has been featured twice in JPG Magazine, Issue #11 and Issue #14.

  • I have now photographed or helped with three weddings.

  • I am always seeking additional photography work and experience. No matter the project, freel free to contact me.
